In-Home Lifestyle Newborn Session | Flower Mound Newborn Photographer
Whether the lifestyle sessions take place in your home or in a natural-light studio, lifestyle sessions are full of such beauty and emotion. Especially when older siblings are involved. They are always so excited to show off their newest little baby. When I got to this beautiful family session, they were also very excited to show me all around their home, including the bathroom and tub haha! It’s amazing what little human contact will do to kids when they have someone new to talk to during this whole coronavirus-quarantine time. And this mama is clearly the queen of the house with the most handsome group of boys surrounding her.
Also, can we all just notice this sweet baby boy’s perfect hair. A baby mohawk?! Like how precious! My baby’s have been bald so far so I am always a bit envious of baby’s that come out with incredible hair!
Below I am sharing my top tips for having a successful lifestyle newborn session!
How to have a Successful Lifestyle Newborn Session
Keep your baby awake for one hour before the session and then give baby a full feeding timing it that baby is finishing up as I arrive.
If you’re nursing, avoid spicy food or any other food that might upset baby’s tummy
Your baby directs the order the photoshoot will go. If baby is sleepy when I arrive then we start with baby only shots, if baby is awake then we will start with family pictures. The one amazing thing I love about lifestyle sessions is you can get some cute awake shots because they don’t have to be asleep!
Keep the house warmer than usual. Turn off fans and turn off the A/C 15 min before the session. I know it won’t feel the best, especially for a postpartum mama, but baby’s are happier and sleepier if it’s warm.
Feel free to have music playing in the house to keep your older kids happier and relaxed
No matter how the baby is acting it’s important for mom and dad not to get stressed since baby’s can feel the emotions.
How to Dress for a Lifestyle Newborn Session
My advice for picking outfits doesn’t really change from various types of sessions.
Mamas dress yourself first. It is the most important for you to be comfortable and feel beautiful. I usually recommend picking a midi/maxi flowy dress.
Dress in colors that match your home interior and how you like to decorate. My goal is for you to print out your pictures and display them all over your home so you want them to go with your home.
Soft tones and neutrals photograph the best. Avoid wearing bright reds and oranges because they can reflect weird colored shadows onto your skin and the baby. Dress your family in complimentary colors and not have everyone be matching.
Dress the baby in simple and fitting onesies. That will keep the pictures timeless and keep the focus on the baby and not be distracted by the outfit.
